A man and his wife were killed in a gunshot incident under unexplained circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, police said on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Javed Ahmed, son of Abdul Majid, a resident of Bagudass village in Mahore, and his wife, Shaheen Akhter.
Javed was a member of the Village Defence Guard (VDG) and had been issued a .303 rifle, which was used in the incident, according to the information provided.
Police took custody of both bodies and initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Officials are examining the possibility of accidental firing or suicide, although the cause of the incident has not yet been established.
