Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Thursday his government and the ruling National Conference would continue campaigning for the restoration of statehood until it is achieved.
“We will continue our efforts until statehood is restored,” Abdullah told reporters after reviewing relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected Rajouri district when asked whether more action would follow demonstrations held across the region on Wednesday.
His remarks followed a protest in New Delhi on July 20 led by Abdullah and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah demanding restoration of statehood and constitutional rights for Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised into two federally administered territories after the revocation of its special constitutional status in August 2019. The National Conference has consistently maintained that restoration of full statehood remains one of its principal political objectives.
