The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation following a trap operation in which two employees were allegedly caught accepting bribes, media reports said on Monday.

The agency named three individuals in a First Information Report and is investigating allegations linked to a demand for illegal payments within the municipal body’s Left River Works Division.

The case stems from an operation conducted on June 19 during which two employees were allegedly caught accepting Rs 5000 from a complainant.

Investigators subsequently carried out searches and seized documents and electronic records, reports said.

One suspect is already in custody, while efforts are underway to locate another official named in the case.

The investigation has been registered under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and remains ongoing.

The CBI has not publicly disclosed detailed findings from the probe.
