Speaking in Parliament during debate on bills linked to women’s reservation and delimitation, Shah said the number of seats would rise across the country and that southern states would see an increase in representation in absolute terms.
Ruling party lawmakers said the measures would correct long-pending delays in women’s political representation and strengthen governance.
He said the inclusion of women in policymaking would enhance the country’s development trajectory, adding that the moment should not be lost to political divisions.
