A steam boiler explosion at a cold storage facility in south Kashmir’s Shopian district killed one engineer and injured two others on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The incident occurred at a cold store in the Aglar fruit mandi area, where three engineers were carrying out repair work when the boiler exploded.
All three were taken to a district hospital in Shopian, where one of them later died of his injuries, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Saurabh Singh, while the injured were identified as Dileep Kumar and Ram Kumar.
The three men were residents of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.
Officials said the blast involved a steam-generating system used in cold storage operations, which functions under high pressure and can pose significant risks if it malfunctions.
The condition of the two injured was not immediately clear.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, officials said.
