Indian Army chief General Dhiraj Seth reviewed the counter-terrorism preparedness of Rashtriya Rifles formations in Kashmir on Saturday and urged troops to remain ready to respond to emerging threats.
Seth visited a Rashtriya Rifles sector headquarters under the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps and was briefed on the security situation and measures to detect and respond to militant threats.
The Army said he called for constant vigilance, stronger intelligence-led operations and the ability to respond quickly and precisely.
He also stressed coordination between the Army, civil administration, Central Armed Police Forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
“Commendation badges” were awarded to soldiers recognised for gallantry and exemplary service in counter-terrorist operations, the Army said.
The visit followed Seth’s inspection on Friday of forward areas in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district, where commanders briefed him on the Line of Control security environment and operational readiness.
Seth also visited the Advanced Surgical Eye Camp under Operation Drishti 2026 at an underground forward surgical centre in Tangdhar.
Specialist teams from Army Hospital (R&R), New Delhi, and 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar, are screening patients and planning ophthalmic surgeries for serving personnel, veterans, dependants and civilians from remote areas, the Army said.
The first phase of surgeries was conducted at the forward location before the team moves to Badami Bagh for the next phase.
Seth also reiterated the five-point “VIJAY” framework he outlined after taking charge on June 30: Vigilance, Innovation and Transformation, Jointness and Integration, Atmanirbharta and Yodha First.
The Army chief’s Kashmir visit is his second since becoming the 31st Chief of the Army Staff.
His first Northern Command tour in July included visits to Chinar Corps headquarters, formations in Kupwara, Uri and Manasbal, and forward areas in Jammu.
