Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma on Sunday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed a range of issues related to security, development and the political situation in J&K.
According to a statement issued by Sharma’s office, the two leaders held detailed discussions on the prevailing security and law-and-order situation, ongoing development initiatives and the broader political landscape in J&K.
Sharma apprised Shah of issues and concerns emerging from the ground and highlighted people’s aspirations for peace, development and effective governance, the statement said.
The meeting also reviewed the Centre’s efforts to strengthen security, promote inclusive development and deepen democratic institutions at the grassroots level.
Both leaders stressed the need to consolidate gains achieved in recent years and ensure that the benefits of development reach all sections of society, the statement added.
Shah assured Sharma that the government remained committed to ensuring lasting peace, strengthening security, accelerating development and safeguarding the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the statement, the home minister said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would continue to extend all necessary support for the overall progress and prosperity of the Union Territory.
Sharma reiterated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s commitment to protecting the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and working towards peace, prosperity and development.
He said Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed significant progress in development, transparency and empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the guidance of Shah.
The meeting reflected the BJP leadership’s continued focus on security, peace and holistic development in Jammu and Kashmir while addressing public concerns and expectations, the statement said.
