Rally highlighted importance of reducing pollution through use of eco-friendly modes of transport

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) on Sunday organised a bicycle rally to mark World Bicycle Day, promoting environmental sustainability and healthy living among students and staff.
According to a statement issued by the university, the rally was organised by the Dean Students Welfare Department and flagged off by Vice Chancellor Nazir Ahmad Ganai from the Shalimar campus.
A large number of students, faculty members, officers and staff participated in the event, which began at the university campus and concluded at Foreshore Road.
The rally highlighted the importance of reducing pollution through the use of eco-friendly modes of transport and encouraged people to adopt cycling as a sustainable alternative to motor vehicles.
Participants also underscored the health benefits of cycling, describing it as an effective form of physical exercise that contributes to fitness and overall well-being.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ganai appreciated the efforts of the Dean, Students Welfare Department, for organising the programme and promoting environmental awareness and healthy lifestyle choices within the university community.
He said such initiatives help create awareness about sustainable practices while encouraging individuals to incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives.
During the event, participants pledged to support environmental conservation efforts and adopt cycling as part of their routine to contribute towards a cleaner and healthier future.
The programme concluded with a call for active lifestyles, reduced carbon emissions and collective responsibility towards environmental protection, the statement said.
