Tuberculosis patients in Baramulla district have not received a monthly financial assistance of 1,000 rupees intended to support their nutrition during treatment, despite funds being available under a federal programme, beneficiaries and officials said.
The aid is provided under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), a centrally sponsored scheme implemented through the National Health Mission, which offers free diagnosis, treatment and direct cash transfers to patients.
Under the programme’s Nikshay Poshan Yojana component, registered tuberculosis patients are entitled to monthly nutritional support via direct benefit transfer.
However, several patients in Baramulla said they had not received the payments during or even after completing treatment.
One beneficiary, whose case was detected in June 2025 and who has since completed a six-month course of treatment, said the financial support had not been credited to his account.
Health officials acknowledged delays but said the funds would be disbursed soon.
“The funds will be disbursed in the coming days to the beneficiaries,” a district tuberculosis officer said.
India has stepped up efforts to eliminate tuberculosis under NTEP, but gaps in implementation at the local level continue to affect delivery of benefits in some areas.
