A three-day workshop on translation in Kashmiri and Sanskrit began at the University of Kashmir (KU) on Tuesday, aimed at building language skills and promoting multilingual scholarship, organisers said.
The programme is being organised by the university’s Department of Kashmiri in collaboration with the National Translation Mission under the Central Institute of Indian Languages.
Officials said the workshop seeks to enhance translation capabilities among students and researchers, while encouraging the use of Indian languages in academic and literary work.
Vice Chancellor Nilofer Khan said translation played a key role in connecting knowledge systems and making content accessible across linguistic boundaries.
University officials highlighted the importance of such initiatives in preserving linguistic diversity and strengthening academic engagement with regional languages.
The workshop includes lectures by experts, practical translation exercises and interactive sessions focused on Kashmiri and Sanskrit texts, with participation from students and research scholars across the campus.
Representatives of the National Translation Mission also outlined the role of translation in knowledge dissemination and cultural exchange.
The event is part of broader efforts to promote language studies and translation practices in higher education institutions, organisers said.
