Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday visited patients injured in a recent bus accident in Udhampur, directing officials to ensure comprehensive medical care and tighter road safety measures.

The leaders visited the Government Medical College Jammu, where doctors briefed them on the condition of those critically injured in the April 20 crash in the Ramnagar area.

Hospital authorities said two patients in critical condition were under constant supervision and receiving specialised treatment.

LG Sinha directed the hospital administration to provide the best possible care to ensure a speedy recovery.

CM Omar interacted with the injured and their families, and later inspected facilities including the trauma centre, intensive care unit and surgical wards to review treatment arrangements.

He also chaired a review meeting at Government Medical College Udhampur to assess medical care and the hospital’s functioning, officials said.

Expressing concern over road safety, the CM instructed the transport department to increase bus frequency and strictly enforce measures against overloading.

“Don’t show any laxity on these issues,” he said.

Officials said victims were receiving financial assistance under government schemes, including compensation for fatalities, disabilities and injuries.

CM Omar had earlier announced ex-gratia relief from the chief minister’s fund, including Rs 2 lakh for the families of those killed, Rs 1 lakh for the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for those with minor injuries.

Authorities said investigations into the cause of the accident were ongoing.
