Srinagar, April 22

The Indian Army on Wednesday reaffirmed its resolve to combat violence, warning of assured retaliation against attacks on the country as it marked one year since the Pahalgam assault that killed 26 civilians.

The April 22, 2025 attack in Pahalgam stunned the country after heavily armed men targeted a tourist site, turning a popular destination into a scene of violence, officials said.

In a message posted on social media platform X, the Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information said, “For acts against India, the response is assured. Justice will be served. Always,” alongside a graphic stating ‘Operation Sindoor continues.’

Investigations found that the attackers selected victims based on religious identity, intensifying national outrage and grief.

Security forces later launched a joint operation, dubbed ‘Operation Mahadev,’ which resulted in the killing of three gunmen identified as directly involved in the attack, officials said.

In the aftermath, India also took a series of non-military measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and halting bilateral trade with Pakistan.
