Saifullah Mir, a senior National Conference (NC) leader and lawyer, has returned to the cabinet.

He was elected as MLA in 2024 after winning the Trehgam Assembly seat in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Mir previously represented the neighbouring Kupwara constituency, winning elections in 1996, 2002, and 2008.

After constituency delimitation, he contested Trehgam in 2024 and secured his fourth Assembly victory.

He polled 18,002 votes, defeating People’s Conference candidate Bashir Ahmad Dar, who received 14,376 votes, by 3626 votes.

Mir earned an LLB from the University of Kashmir in 1987.

He previously served in the government led by Omar Abdullah and was inducted into the ministry during a cabinet reshuffle in January 2013.
