Police in Srinagar, in coordination with the Drugs and Food Control Organisation, sealed three medical shops during an inspection drive conducted under the anti-drug campaign “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan”, officials said on Saturday.
The joint inspection was carried out in the Noorbagh area by Police Post Noorbagh under the Maharaj Gunj subdivision along with officials of the Drugs and Food Control Organisation, a police spokesperson said in a statement.
Authorities said the shops were found operating in violation of provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and were sealed on the spot.
The sealed establishments were identified as Tahir Medicate, Cyelon Pharma Chemist and Druggists and Care Plus Pharmacy.
Officials said expired medicines and other violations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act were detected during the inspections, following which legal proceedings were initiated.
Police said the action was part of the ongoing “100 Days Campaign” launched under the anti-drug initiative in Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities said similar inspection drives would continue across the district to curb drug abuse and ensure compliance with regulations governing the sale and distribution of medicines.
