Wild boars have damaged paddy nurseries in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a local activist to urge authorities to take urgent action to protect farmers, officials and residents said on Monday.
Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir RTI Movement, Raja Muzaffar Bhat, said the problem was reported from areas in Chadoora and Sonawari, including Wathoora, Rupora and Asham.
In a statement, Bhat appealed to Forest and Wildlife Minister Javed Rana and Chief Wildlife Warden Sarvesh Rai to convene a meeting to address the issue.
He said wild boars were entering fields at night and destroying newly sown paddy, forcing farmers to reseed multiple times over the past week.
“The problem has frustrated paddy farmers and needs to be addressed at the highest level,” he said.
Authorities have not yet commented on the reported damage.
