US President Donald Trump is dispatching envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan for talks with Iran’s foreign minister, the White House said on Friday.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the officials would meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as part of efforts to advance negotiations.
“We’re hopeful that it will be a productive conversation and hopefully move the ball forward to a deal,” she said in an interview with Fox News.
Leavitt said Vice President JD Vance would not travel but remains “deeply involved” in the discussions, adding he would stay in the United States alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the president’s national security team.
She said senior officials were on standby and could travel to Pakistan if required, as Washington seeks progress in its engagement with Tehran.
