The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, organised an awareness programme under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ at Zabarwan Park on the banks of Dal Lake on Saturday, officials said.

The campaign brought together tourism bodies, educational institutions, civil society groups and hospitality stakeholders in a collective call for a drug-free society.

The event was jointly organised by the Tourist Office Zabarwan Park along with the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA), Bilaliya Educational Institute, Jammu and Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (JKHARA) and other partners.

Assistant Director Tourism Rehmat Bhat, NLCO Chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, and JKHARA President Babar Choudhary were among those present, along with students, shikara and houseboat operators, tourists and members of the public.

The programme began with a plantation drive, followed by awareness sessions highlighting the risks of drug abuse and the need for community participation in prevention efforts.

Students from participating institutions spoke about the growing threat of substance abuse and stressed the importance of sustained awareness campaigns.

Organisers said the initiative aimed to strengthen grassroots engagement in the ongoing anti-drug campaign across Jammu and Kashmir.
