The Supreme Court, while upholding the Abrogation of Article 370 in December 2023, directed that Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood be restored “at the earliest.”

Railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off the train in the presence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and lawmakers Sat Paul Sharma and Ghulam Ali Khatana.

Speaking at Jammu Railway Station during a ceremony to mark the extension of the Vande Bharat Express to Jammu, Abdullah thanked the central government and railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for “actually connecting Jammu with Kashmir through rail”.
