The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for regulated two-way traffic on Wednesday despite fresh rainfall that triggered mudslides and congestion along vulnerable stretches, officials said.
Rain in the Chenani-Udhampur sector brought mud and slush onto the damaged Dewal stretch near Samroli, but crews from the National Highways Authority of India cleared debris, allowing traffic to continue.
Traffic moved slowly through bottlenecks at Dewal-Samroli in Udhampur district and the Maroog-Kishtwari Pather stretch in Ramban district, where four-laning work is under way.
Authorities said the Dewal section remains vulnerable to landslides, shooting stones and road damage during rainfall and requires continuous maintenance.
Heavy vehicles were allowed to travel from Srinagar towards Jammu in line with the traffic plan, while passenger vehicles were permitted regulated two-way movement.
Traffic police advised motorists to travel during daylight hours and use alternate routes where possible to avoid congestion and ongoing restoration work.
The highway has faced repeated disruptions in recent weeks due to monsoon-triggered landslides and flash floods, although restoration work has enabled traffic to resume under regulation.
