Security forces have intensified surveillance and stepped up joint operations across Kashmir, with additional checkpoints and tighter vehicle inspections introduced in Srinagar and several other districts following a recent militant attack in Anantnag, officials said.

Security personnel have increased their presence at major road junctions, town entrances and other sensitive locations, while police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) teams have been conducting coordinated checks of vehicles and pedestrians.

In Srinagar, security forces have established additional temporary and permanent checkpoints at key locations. Personnel have been carrying out detailed inspections of private vehicles, public transport and two-wheelers, checking identity documents, luggage and vehicle boots.

Similar measures have been reported in Ganderbal, Kulgam, Bandipora, Anantnag, Baramulla and Budgam, among other districts, officials said.

The intensified security arrangements follow a recent attack in Anantnag in which a police head constable deployed on Amarnath Yatra duty was killed, prompting security agencies to place the region on heightened alert.

“Security forces have intensified surveillance, strengthened checkpoints and launched search operations to maintain law and order,” a senior security official said. The official urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and remain vigilant.

The heightened security posture comes as thousands of pilgrims continue to travel through the Valley as part of the annual Amarnath Yatra, increasing the focus on securing major routes, transit points and vulnerable areas.

Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat reviewed the security situation at a high-level meeting in Srinagar on Friday, directing officers to strengthen area and night domination operations, particularly in vulnerable and densely populated urban areas.

The police leadership also called for enhanced protection of critical infrastructure and greater coordination among intelligence and security agencies.

Officers were directed to intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying and dismantling what authorities described as residual militant networks, officials said.

Joint police and CRPF teams have continued area-domination and search operations across the Valley, with security personnel maintaining a visible presence despite intermittent rainfall.

Authorities have also increased monitoring of movement along highways and at entry points to towns as part of efforts to prevent any attempt to disrupt public order or target security personnel and civilians.

The latest measures reflect a broader tightening of the security grid across Kashmir, with agencies relying on increased ground surveillance, intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination to counter potential threats.

Officials said the security operations would continue, with the focus on maintaining a robust security environment while ensuring the smooth movement of civilians and pilgrims across the region.
