Satish Sharma calls for stronger, inclusive sports ecosystem

Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, on Saturday called for building a robust and inclusive sports ecosystem in the region, stressing the need to expand infrastructure and grassroots participation.

Speaking at a ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Srinagar, Sharma said sports play a key role in channelling youth energy into constructive and nation-building activities, while promoting discipline, teamwork and excellence.

He emphasised the importance of developing modern sports facilities and ensuring access in rural and remote areas, including border regions, to provide equal opportunities for young athletes.

Sharma also called for greater coordination among departments and stakeholders to identify talent early and provide structured training and exposure.

The minister highlighted the role of technology in sports administration, talent scouting and performance monitoring to improve efficiency and transparency.

He said the government was committed to nurturing sporting talent and enabling youth to compete at national and international levels.

The event, attended by officials and sector experts, focused on policy coordination and sharing best practices to strengthen the sports ecosystem and youth engagement in Jammu and Kashmir.
