Police in Jammu and Kashmir have attached properties worth about Rs 45 lakh belonging to an alleged drug trafficker from Baramulla district as part of an anti-narcotics drive, officials said on Tuesday.
The assets, linked to Muhammad Rustum Shah, include a residential house and a vehicle, and were attached under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, a Police spokesperson said.
The action was taken in connection with a case registered at Rehambal Police Station in Udhampur district under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Investigators found that the accused had acquired the properties including a car and a house in Nadihal area of Baramulla using proceeds from alleged narcotics trafficking, the spokesman said.
The assets were registered in the name of a family member, officials said.
Police said the move was part of an intensified campaign against drug trafficking under an ongoing anti-drug initiative in the region.
With the latest action, authorities have attached properties worth about Rs 80 lakh belonging to suspected drug peddlers as part of the campaign, the spokesman said.
