National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah said on Friday that the continued trust and support of the people of Jammu and Kashmir remained the driving force behind the National Conference government.

Abdullah made the remarks while interacting with members of the public and several delegations who visited his Gupkar residence in Srinagar to extend Eid greetings for the third consecutive day, according to a party statement.

Highlighting the National Conference’s long-standing connection with the people, he said the party drew its strength from the masses and maintained deep roots across Jammu and Kashmir.

He reiterated that the party remained committed to serving the people and addressing their aspirations with sincerity and dedication.

Abdullah also urged people to pray for lasting peace, harmony and prosperity in the Muslim world and across the globe, stressing the need for unity, compassion and collective efforts to promote brotherhood among communities.

Several delegations and individuals conveyed Eid greetings to Abdullah and wished peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Separately, Abdullah demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged NEET paper leak, saying those responsible should be identified and punished.

“There should be a full-fledged investigation. Those involved should be punished because our children are suffering,” he told reporters in Srinagar.

Referring to reports linking the leak to multiple states, Abdullah said students were being forced to reappear for examinations in difficult weather conditions, causing distress to families.

Commenting on the recent encounter in Rajouri district, Abdullah said dialogue remained the only path to resolving issues.

“There is no other way than dialogue,” he said, adding that negotiations were necessary wherever disputes existed.

Asked about the BJP’s claims that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had improved following the abrogation of Article 370, Abdullah responded that developments on the ground would speak for themselves.

On the rape and murder of a minor girl in Budgam, Abdullah expressed grief and concern, calling for moral introspection and urging people to uphold compassion and social responsibility.

He also said criticism by the opposition was essential in a democracy as it helped governments take corrective steps and make better decisions.
