The commander of Northern Army Command visited forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Pir Panjal region on Friday to review operational preparedness and assess security arrangements in one of the country’s most sensitive border sectors, the Army said.

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma toured the Krishna Ghati and Poonch sectors, where he received briefings from field commanders on the prevailing security situation, troop deployment and measures undertaken to maintain operational readiness along the de facto border with Pakistan.

The visit comes amid continued military vigilance along the LoC, where Indian forces maintain a heightened state of preparedness despite the ceasefire understanding between India and Pakistan that has largely reduced cross-border firing in recent years.

During his interaction with soldiers deployed in the forward areas, Sharma commended their professionalism and commitment to safeguarding the country’s borders under challenging operational conditions, according to an Army statement.

He praised troops for maintaining a high level of alertness and operational readiness and urged them to remain focused on their mission while upholding the Army’s professional standards.

“The Army Commander appreciated the troops for their vigilance, dedication and steadfast commitment to protecting the nation’s frontiers,” the statement said.

He also emphasised the importance of sustaining operational excellence and preparedness in view of evolving security challenges along the frontier.

The Army did not disclose further details of the operational review.

The Northern Command is responsible for overseeing military operations along India’s frontiers with Pakistan and China in the northern region, including the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, where troops remain deployed year-round to counter cross-border infiltration and respond to potential security threats.
