Northern Army Commander Pratik Sharma on Thursday led a high-level security review in Kashmir, bringing together senior officials from the Army, Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies to assess the region’s evolving security landscape.
The meeting, held under the Joint Control Centre framework, focused on strengthening coordination among agencies engaged in counterterrorism operations.
Officials discussed ways to enhance intelligence-sharing mechanisms, improve situational awareness and optimise deployment strategies in sensitive areas.
Participants reviewed emerging patterns in militant activity and emphasised the need for a more integrated intelligence grid to enable faster, more precise responses. Lt. Gen. Sharma highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation, describing coordination between security forces as critical to sustaining recent gains in counterterrorism efforts.
In parallel, Lt Gen. Sharma visited forward and hinterland positions in north and south Kashmir, where he was briefed on operational readiness and current security conditions. During interactions with troops, he commended their discipline and commitment, while underscoring the need for continued vigilance and adaptability in addressing shifting threats.
Officials said the review also examined measures to strengthen surveillance and rapid response capabilities, with an emphasis on intelligence-driven operations in both urban and remote areas.
The visits and consultations, they said, are part of an ongoing effort by the Northern Command to reinforce coordination and maintain stability in a region where security challenges remain fluid.
