Senior IPS officer Nitish Kumar on Monday took charge as Additional Director General of Police, Armed Police, Jammu and Kashmir, following a Home Department reshuffle.
Kumar, a 1999-batch AGMUT cadre officer, received a guard of honour at Armed Police Headquarters and was briefed on the force’s operations, deployment and responsibilities.
He was transferred from the post of ADGP, CID, J&K, under a government order issued on Aug. 27. He had also been holding additional charge as director of the State Investigation Agency.
IPS officer M K Sinha was posted as ADGP, CID, replacing Kumar.
Kumar has held several policing and investigative posts in J&K, including SSP positions in Handwara, Pulwama and Anantnag and DIG positions in South and North Kashmir.
He served as IGP, CID, from March 2023 after returning from central deputation, where he worked with the National Investigation Agency and the Cabinet Secretariat.
He was promoted to ADGP in February 2024 and was given additional charge as director of the State Investigation Agency the following month.
