The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court for appointment as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The Collegium also recommended Justice Sanjay K Agrawal of the Chhattisgarh High Court as Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court and Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje of the Gujarat High Court as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Bhati, born on September 21, 1970, enrolled as an advocate in 1992 and was elevated to the Rajasthan High Court in November 2016.
He holds degrees in arts and law, an LLM in Mercantile Law and a doctorate on promotion and seniority in public employment.
Before joining the bench, he practised mainly at the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur and handled cases involving service law, writ jurisdiction, public interest litigation, elections, revenue, mining and education.
He served as Additional Advocate General of Rajasthan and was standing counsel for Indian Railways for 16 years.
