Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday described the revocation of Article 370 as a painful reminder of what he called the unilateral alteration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional status, and urged New Delhi to engage with the people of the region through dialogue.
Writing on X on the seventh anniversary of the August 5, 2019 decision, Mirwaiz said the move had deepened the political wounds of the region and weakened its constitutional position.
He said the Centre should honour the principles of humanity and democracy by engaging with the people of Jammu and Kashmir with justice, sincerity and respect.
Mirwaiz also praised what he described as the resilience of Kashmiris in safeguarding their identity and rights despite the constitutional changes.
