The Ministry of Home Affairs has posted 2008-batch IPS officer Abdul Jabbar to the Jammu and Kashmir segment of the Joint AGMUT Cadre, with immediate effect.
The order follows Jabbar’s return from central deputation and will remain in force until further orders.
The period between his reporting to the cadre and the posting order has been treated as “awaiting posting”, according to the order issued by Rakesh Kumar Singh, Under Secretary to the Government of India.
Jabbar has held several senior assignments in Jammu and Kashmir, including posts in Srinagar, Kulgam, Kupwara, Anantnag, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban and south Kashmir.
His assignments included ASP Srinagar from 2010 to 2012, Additional SP Kulgam from 2012 to 2013, SP Kupwara from 2013 to 2014, SP Anantnag from 2015 to 2016, DIG DKR Range from 2020 to 2021 and DIG South Kashmir Range from 2021 to 2022.
He has also served on central deputation with the Intelligence Bureau as SP from 2016 to 2020 and with the Central Bureau of Investigation as DIG from 2022 to 2026.
Jabbar has received five gallantry medals, including the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry for his role in the 2016 operation in Anantnag, in which Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed.
The posting order was circulated to the chief secretaries and police chiefs of the Union Territories and states covered by the Joint AGMUT Cadre.
