People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti said on Tuesday she had spoken to Bhagwant Mann over reports that Kashmiri mutton traders were being stopped and allegedly harassed at entry points in Punjab under the pretext of cattle fair regulations.

In a post on X, Mufti said she had raised concerns about difficulties faced by traders from Kashmir while transporting livestock and conducting business in the neighbouring state.

“Spoke with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann ji about Kashmir mutton dealers reportedly being stopped and harassed by contractors in the name of the Cattle Fair Act at Madhopur, Punjab, and the Shambhu border. He was kind enough to assure me of prompt action,” she said.

Mufti thanked the Punjab chief minister for his intervention and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved at the earliest.

The matter comes amid concerns voiced by sections of livestock traders over alleged obstacles in the transportation and trade of animals outside Jammu and Kashmir.

No immediate response was available from Punjab authorities on the allegations.
