Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said on Saturday that the absence of statehood could not be used to explain delays in addressing basic public services.
Sharma made the remarks during meetings with representatives of trade unions, businesses, traders, transporters, civil society groups, professionals, medical associations and students in Srinagar.
Delegations raised issues including electricity infrastructure, staff shortages in schools, doctors in hospitals, damaged roads, employment and civic amenities, he said.
“These are issues that require governance and administrative action,” Sharma said, referring to complaints about electricity poles, school staffing, healthcare, roads and employment.
Sharma alleged that the National Conference-led government had repeatedly cited a lack of powers when responding to public concerns, which he said had caused confusion among people.
He also raised concerns involving daily wagers, GRS, technical assistants, ASHA and Anganwadi workers and NHM employees, particularly over job security, remuneration and regularisation.
Other issues cited by Sharma included alleged corruption, delays in panchayat elections, higher electricity tariffs and employment opportunities for young people.
He said the BJP would take the issues raised during its outreach programme to the appropriate authorities and, where necessary, the Assembly and the federal government.
