Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday by visiting two children’s homes in Srinagar and a hospital, officials said.
Sinha visited the Palaash and Pareesha children’s homes, where he distributed school bags, sports kits and sweets and reviewed residential facilities.
He later visited the Children’s Hospital in Bemina and met young patients, wishing them a speedy recovery.
The visits coincided with the launch of the month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan”, which will run until October 17.
Officials said the campaign would include 12 programmes, including school competitions, recognition of Anganwadi and ASHA workers, tree-planting activities, youth programmes and registration camps for government welfare schemes.
Sinha said block and ward-level “Seva Setu Abhiyan” camps would be held to help people register for government schemes.
He urged residents of Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the campaign and highlighted national economic and welfare indicators.
Sinha cited a 7.8 percent GDP growth rate for the first quarter of 2026-27 and said 25 crore people had moved above the poverty line, while 80 crore people were receiving free food grains under the government’s welfare programme.
He also cited an increase in India’s national highway network from 91,000 km to 146,000 km and a rise in the number of airports from 74 to 165.
Sinha said Jammu and Kashmir’s rail connectivity and infrastructure had expanded and cited government figures on sanitation, cooking-gas connections and housing.
