Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday called on the police to strengthen peace, unity and security in Jammu and Kashmir, paying tribute to personnel killed in the line of duty.
Marking Police Commemoration Day, Sinha said the courage and sacrifice of police personnel remained an enduring source of inspiration for Jammu and Kashmir and the country.
He expressed condolences to their families and said the government had a responsibility to provide them with continued welfare assistance and support.
“No honour or assistance can compensate a family for the pain of losing a loved one,” Sinha said, adding that efforts would continue to ensure dignified living conditions and necessary support for the families of fallen personnel.
He praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police for maintaining law and order, combating terrorism and assisting people during emergencies and natural disasters.
Sinha said the police, Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces had played a major role in safeguarding the country’s security and territorial integrity under difficult circumstances.
He called on citizens to uphold communal harmony, unity and mutual trust, while urging security agencies to remain vigilant against attempts to disrupt peace.
Sinha said efforts to identify and prosecute terrorist and separatist elements would continue, and stressed the need to strengthen measures against drug trafficking and narco-terrorism.
He also called for greater attention to crimes against women and children, the protection of vulnerable communities and timely justice for victims.
The LG described a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir as a shared responsibility and commended police and security personnel for their service.
