Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday paid tribute to Imam Hussain (AS) ahead of Ashura, saying the martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)’s grandson continues to inspire people across the world to uphold justice, truth, and human dignity.

In separate messages issued on the eve of the annual observance, the two leaders described the Battle of Karbala as a timeless symbol of courage, sacrifice, and resistance against tyranny.

Sinha said the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions remain a lasting source of inspiration for humanity.

“The supreme sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala remain a timeless beacon for humanity, upholding truth, justice, and human dignity,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He called upon people to embrace those ideals in building a peaceful, progressive, and equitable society.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the events of Karbala transcend religious and geographical boundaries, continuing to inspire generations to defend moral values and stand against injustice.

“The message of Karbala transcends time and geography. It inspires humanity to stand firm in the face of injustice and uphold the principles of truth and righteousness,” Abdullah said.

He said Imam Hussain (AS)’s sacrifice, along with that of his family members and companions, represented the highest ideals of faith, compassion, justice, and integrity.

The chief minister urged people to draw inspiration from the values associated with Karbala and work collectively to strengthen communal harmony, mutual respect, and brotherhood.

He also joined people in the observance of Ashura and prayed for lasting peace, prosperity, and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir, while paying homage to the martyrs of Karbala.

Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, commemorates the death of Imam Hussain (AS) in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE and is regarded by Shia Muslims as one of the most significant events in Islamic history.

The day is marked by mourning processions, religious gatherings, and prayers across Jammu and Kashmir, which has one of India’s largest Shia populations.
