Authorities in north Kashmir have reopened a key road linking Mandian village in the Keran sector of Kupwara district after it remained blocked for more than a month due to landslides, officials said Tuesday.
The closure had disrupted access for more than 200 households in the village, affecting daily life and connectivity with nearby areas.
Officials said the district administration in Kupwara deployed men and machinery to clear the debris and restore the route after the prolonged blockade.
A senior official said the road has now been made motorable, providing relief to residents who had been cut off for weeks.
Locals welcomed the move but urged authorities to take preventive measures to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
“The reopening of the road has eased our daily life and restored connectivity with nearby areas. However, long-term steps are needed to prevent recurring landslides, especially during heavy rainfall,” said local resident Javed Ahmad.
