A three-day workshop on translation skills in Kashmiri and Sanskrit began at the University of Kashmir, aimed at promoting linguistic exchange and academic use of Indian languages, organisers said on Monday.

The programme, titled “Translation in Indian Languages – Kashmiri and Sanskrit,” is being organised by the university’s Department of Kashmiri in collaboration with the National Translation Mission under the Central Institute of Indian Languages.

Vice Chancellor Nilofer Khan said at the inaugural session that translation plays a key role in connecting knowledge systems and making academic and literary content accessible across languages.

Dean Academic Affairs Shariefuddin Pirzada said such initiatives support multilingual scholarship and help preserve linguistic diversity.

Registrar Naseer Iqbal said the institution remained committed to encouraging academic engagement with Indian languages.

In a virtual address, Tariq Khan outlined the objectives of the National Translation Mission and highlighted the role of translation in knowledge dissemination and cultural exchange.

The workshop includes lectures, practical sessions and interactive discussions focused on Kashmiri and Sanskrit texts, with participation from students and research scholars across the campus, organisers said.
