The Moul Mouj Foundation organised a hands-on training workshop on early detection and screening of breast cancer in Srinagar, as part of efforts to address rising cases in Jammu and Kashmir, organisers said.

The programme, conducted under the Moul Mouj Cancer Care Project by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on Ageing, brought together doctors, paramedics and healthcare providers at a conference facility in the city.

Participants were trained to identify early warning signs of breast cancer, conduct self-examination techniques and guide patients on timely screening and referrals, organisers said.

Sessions led by medical experts focused on recognising high-risk individuals and improving early diagnosis, which is key to better treatment outcomes.

Dr Zubair Saleem, chairman of CISA, said breast cancer cases were increasing in the region and stressed the need for early detection. 

He said the organisation has developed a simple questionnaire that can be used by non-specialists to identify warning signs and refer patients for further evaluation.

Health experts at the workshop highlighted symptoms such as breast or armpit lumps, changes in breast shape, skin dimpling, nipple discharge and persistent pain, urging timely medical consultation.

They also recommended regular screening for women aged 40 and above, or earlier for high-risk groups, and encouraged monthly self-examinations.

Organisers said the initiative aims to strengthen awareness and equip frontline healthcare workers with practical skills to improve early detection across the region.
