Thousands of devotees gathered at the Hazratbal shrine and other religious sites across Kashmir on Wednesday to mark Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Celebrations began on Tuesday night, with devotees gathering at Hazratbal for prayers, Quran recitation, Darood and religious sermons.
Large numbers continued to arrive at the shrine on Wednesday to offer prayers and witness the display of the holy relic after congregational prayers.
Devotees raised their hands in prayer as the relic was displayed, while chants of Darood and Salaam echoed around the shrine.
Major congregations were also held at Reshi Sahib Anantnag, Khiram Sirhama, Seer Hamdan, Kaba Marg, Dooru and Sopore.
Milad processions were held in several towns, with participants carrying green flags and banners while reciting praises of the Prophet.
Roads, mosques and marketplaces across Srinagar and other districts were decorated with green flags, lights and banners.
Authorities deployed police, traffic personnel, municipal workers, health officials and other agencies at Hazratbal and major congregation points.
Traffic Police arranged parking areas and diversion plans and deployed additional public transport to manage the movement of devotees.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation carried out special sanitation drives around Hazratbal and other religious sites.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted people on Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), saying he hoped the occasion would promote togetherness and happiness.
