The Jammu and Kashmir Judicial Academy on Saturday held a one-day orientation programme on new criminal laws, bringing together judges, prosecutors, police officers and law students to discuss reforms in the justice system.
The event, organised at Gulshan Ground in Jammu, focused on recent legal changes including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
In his address, Rajnesh Oswal said criminal justice systems must evolve with societal changes, noting that the new laws incorporate digital and electronic aspects to align with contemporary needs.
Rahul Bharti said effective justice delivery depends on coordination between police, prosecution and judiciary, highlighting the need to address systemic inefficiencies.
The programme, held under the patronage of Arun Palli, included technical sessions covering procedural reforms, trial processes, appeals and evidentiary standards, particularly in relation to electronic evidence.
Director of the academy Naseer Ahmad Dar said such initiatives were essential to improve understanding and implementation of the new legal framework among stakeholders.
