Jammu and Kashmir has barred renewal of expired state and Nazool land leases under the Jammu and Kashmir Land Grants Rules, 2022, the government told the legislative assembly on Tuesday.
Responding to a question from Peoples Conference legislator Sajad Gani Lone, the government said Rule 12 of the 2022 rules prohibited renewal of such leases.
It said 80 lease cases had expired during the period when Jammu and Kashmir was a state.
The government said it had no record of expired lease cases in Anantnag, while Srinagar had the highest number, although the exact figure could not be established.
J&K has nearly 9.98 million kanal of state land and about 9,877 kanal of Nazool land, according to the government response.
Before the 2019 reorganisation, 5,619 kanal and 22 marlas of state and Nazool land had been leased for commercial purposes – 531 kanal and 16 marlas in Jammu division and 5088 kanal and six marlas in Kashmir division.
The government said detailed information on the terms, duration, and financial conditions of individual leases had been provided separately.
The response comes days after the administration issued eviction notices to several occupants of Nazool land in Srinagar.
