The government on Thursday approved a scheme to provide six free LPG cylinders annually to families covered under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Food and Civil Supplies Minister Satish Sharma told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Sharma said the competent authority had approved the policy and that orders for its implementation would be issued shortly.
“I want to inform this august House that the six free gas cylinder policy for AAY has got approval from the competent authority,” he said.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced the proposal while presenting his second Budget as finance minister in February.
Abdullah said the measure would provide direct assistance to vulnerable households and help reduce their expenditure on cooking fuel.
The scheme will cover AAY families across Jammu and Kashmir.
