Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers protested in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday after the government approved a scheme providing six free LPG cylinders a year to Antyodaya Anna Yojana families.
The BJP said the ruling National Conference had promised 12 free cylinders in its election manifesto.
The protests followed Food and Civil Supplies Minister Satish Sharma’s announcement that the six-cylinder scheme had received government approval.
BJP legislators raised slogans questioning what had happened to the remaining six cylinders.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma accused the government of failing to fulfil its election promises and said people should be given clarity on the commitments made by the ruling party.
He also criticised the government over what he described as unfulfilled promises relating to electricity supplies.
Sharma separately raised concerns over vacancies in the health sector and the functioning of medical equipment, including ventilators in government medical colleges.
He also criticised the handling of the TET issue involving teachers and said the government needed to address their concerns.
