The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has issued bailable warrants of Rs 10,000 each against three officials over their failure to comply with its directions in a case concerning a proposed faecal sludge treatment plant and alleged waste dumping in Pulwama district.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Rajnesh Oswal issued the warrants against the Pulwama deputy commissioner, the chief executive officer of the Municipal Council Pulwama and the member secretary of the J&K Pollution Control Board.
The court said its August 4 order in the public interest litigation had not been complied with.
The petition, filed by Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, seeks intervention against construction and operation of a faecal sludge treatment plant and waste dumping site at Newa, alleging violations of environmental rules.
It also seeks removal of material allegedly dumped at the site and compensation for residents of Newa.
The court had previously given the three officials a final opportunity to submit separate affidavits within four weeks and ordered them to appear personally if they failed to comply.
The court said neither the affidavits had been filed nor had the officials appeared.
It ordered the warrants to secure their presence at the next hearing on October 5.
The warrants are to be executed through the concerned senior superintendent of police.
