Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said on Wednesday that the government had taken note of issues raised by legislators during the autumn session and had directed officials to address concerns within the available time.

Speaking on the concluding day of the Assembly session, Choudhary said members from both the ruling and opposition benches had raised matters affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Whatever could have been done by the government, we did it and directed the officers accordingly,” he said.

Choudhary urged legislators to keep political differences and heated exchanges inside the House separate from their work outside the Assembly, saying their responsibility towards the public remained unchanged.

He expressed hope that officials would take seriously the concerns and directions conveyed by legislators and thanked Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather for accommodating members during the session. He also acknowledged the work of Assembly employees, security personnel and the media.

National Conference legislator Tanvir Sadiq praised the Speaker’s handling of proceedings, saying political disagreements were part of the democratic process. He also called for improvements to digital facilities, including the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), ahead of the next session.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) legislator Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami also praised the Speaker, Assembly staff and the media for their contributions.

BJP legislator Pawan Gupta said the short duration of the session had prevented members from raising several constituency-level issues. He called for Assembly sessions to last at least 60 days a year, allowing legislators more time to ask questions and discuss public concerns.

Congress legislator Iftikhar Ahmed said the government had responded to issues raised by members and described Assembly sessions as an important forum for addressing public expectations.

Peoples Democratic Party legislator Aga Syed Muntazir also praised Rather for accommodating members, particularly those from smaller parties, which have fewer opportunities to participate in proceedings.

He urged the Speaker to consider the concerns of Assembly staff and acknowledged the media’s role in reporting legislative proceedings.

The 10-day autumn session began on September 21 and concluded on Wednesday after seven sitting.
