Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said a case had been registered under the Essential Commodities Act against a man accused of illegally storing fertiliser in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
In a statement, Jammu and Kashmir Police said the case was registered in coordination with officials from the Agriculture Department during a checking and verification drive in the Parigam area.
Police said a large quantity of urea fertiliser was found stored inside a godown during the inspection.
The owner of the fertiliser was identified as Fayaz Ahmad Magray, a resident of Kaisermullah Chadoora, police said.
According to the statement, the accused failed to produce a valid licence or authorised documents related to the storage and possession of the fertiliser during verification.
Following the inspection, police registered FIR No. 93/2026 at Police Station Pulwama under relevant provisions of the Essential Commodities Act and launched an investigation.
Police said it remained committed to strict enforcement against illegal hoarding, black marketing and unauthorised storage of essential commodities, and urged the public to report such activities.
