The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has completed a review of healthcare preparedness for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, with authorities outlining measures aimed at strengthening emergency response and specialised medical support for pilgrims.

SKIMS Director Muhammad Ashraf Ganie chaired a meeting of faculty members and administrative heads on Saturday to assess readiness ahead of the annual pilgrimage.

Ganie directed departments to ensure uninterrupted availability of critical care facilities, emergency services, medicines, logistics and trained personnel.

The institute said it would deploy a Remote Patient Monitoring System to facilitate real-time monitoring of critically ill patients and improve clinical decision-making.

Officials also highlighted the importance of systematic collection of medical data during the pilgrimage to support future healthcare planning and policy formulation.

Referring to earlier research conducted by SKIMS, Ganie reiterated the need for comprehensive pre-yatra medical screening, describing it as a key measure for preventing health emergencies among pilgrims.

The institute said a dedicated command centre would operate from the casualty department to coordinate healthcare services throughout the pilgrimage period.

SKIMS will also run a 24-hour telemedicine facility enabling senior consultants to provide specialist support to medical teams stationed along the pilgrimage route.

The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3.
