Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator R S Pathania on Monday defended his party’s disruption of Question Hour in Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly, saying the protest was intended to highlight alleged corruption and what he called a “transfer industry”.
BJP lawmakers had raised slogans and displayed placards over electricity tariffs, outsourcing of government jobs and employee regularisation.
“We are with the people of J&K to expose corruption and the transfer industry,” Pathania told reporters after the House was adjourned.
He rejected the government’s description of the protest as a disruption, saying BJP lawmakers had sought answers on issues affecting the public.
Pathania accused the Omar Abdullah government of failing to fulfil election promises relating to jobs, electricity, ration and cooking gas.
“You said we will provide 1 lakh jobs in a year. Where is it? … You said 200 units of free electricity. Where is it?” he said.
On statehood, Pathania said the BJP supported its restoration but accused the National Conference of using the issue for political purposes.
The BJP would continue to raise issues concerning employment, public services and government commitments, he said.
