A delegation of senior Jammu and Kashmir BJP leaders met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister J P Nadda in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss governance, politics and security in J&K, the BJP said in a statement.
The delegation included BJP national general secretary and J&K in-charge Tarun Chugh, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma, Assembly Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma and Lok Sabha member Jugal Kishore Sharma.
According to the BJP statement, the delegation told Shah that public dissatisfaction was growing over what it described as the National Conference government’s failure to address everyday concerns.
The party accused the NC-led administration of failing to provide responsive and accountable governance despite receiving a popular mandate, and said it was instead focused on political blame games and what it called diversionary narratives.
The BJP leaders cited employment, civic services, infrastructure, welfare and administrative efficiency as areas where they said problems remained unresolved.
They also urged the central government to ensure that development activity in J&K did not lose momentum.
The delegation also discussed the security situation, crediting the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah with weakening the “ecosystem of terrorism” in the region.
The BJP said the improved security environment had created opportunities for investment, tourism, infrastructure development and economic growth.
The leaders also praised the conduct of the annual Shri Baba Amarnath Ji Yatra, saying coordinated efforts by security forces, civil authorities and other stakeholders had ensured its safe completion.
Shah, according to the BJP statement, assured the delegation that the federal government remained committed to protecting the interests of the people of J&K and would continue to strengthen security, accelerate development and expand welfare programmes.
He also said concerns raised by the BJP leaders would receive due attention and appropriate action.
