A delegation from Bank of Baroda led by Executive Director Beena Vaheed on Monday met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss plans to expand the bank’s operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, the delegation outlined its strategy to strengthen the bank’s presence in Srinagar and other regions, with a focus on improving banking outreach and supporting economic growth.

Abdullah welcomed the proposal and assured the delegation of the administration’s support in facilitating the expansion.

He said that the government would extend necessary assistance to help increase banking penetration in the region.

The CM said a broader banking footprint could boost the local economy, which is driven by agriculture and allied sectors, as well as handicrafts, handloom and tourism, and could generate employment opportunities for youth.

He also urged the bank to develop financial products tailored to these sectors to improve access to credit and strengthen livelihoods, officials said.
