The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday filed a chargesheet against 10 people, including seven Srinagar Municipal Corporation officials, alleging that they abused their official positions to facilitate illegal construction in Srinagar.
The chargesheet was filed before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No 06/2023 registered at the ACB police station in Srinagar.
The accused include seven government officials associated with the SMC and three private individuals, according to the bureau.
They have been charged under provisions of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, the Ranbir Penal Code, the Registration of Documents Act and the Evacuees (Administration of Property) Act, 1949, the ACB said.
The case concerns alleged unauthorised construction in Ward No 28 of Batamaloo, near Tiny Hearts School in Tengpora.
According to the ACB, its investigation found that officials had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with a private beneficiary, identified as Reyaz Ahmad Dar, to facilitate the construction.
The bureau said its findings were based on oral and documentary evidence collected during the investigation.
The investigation, it said, established a link between the accused government officials and private beneficiaries in facilitating the alleged unauthorised construction.
The public servants were chargesheeted after the government granted the required sanction to prosecute them, the ACB said.
The filing of the chargesheet brings the case before the court, which will now examine the allegations and evidence as part of the judicial process.
The accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
